Jimi Hendrix and the Experience arrive in Düsseldorf on January 12. He plays two shows at the Rheinhalle that night with the Düsseldorf audience was quite appreciative and courteous. There was no encore. The song list from the second show is a follows:

  • Spanish Castle Magic

  • Foxy Lady

  • Fire

  • Red House

  • Sunshine of Your Love (Cream cover)

  • Come On (Part I) (Earl King cover)

  • Purple Haze

After the concert, the group visits the Düsseldorf club named the Le Pirate. The party moves to Club 66 late that night, where rumor has it that Jimi plays acoustic guitar . Even today, 50 years later, there are ongoing blogs and conversations about this acoustic session's existence. The next morning, Baron Reiner von der Osten-Sacken invites Hendrix to meet at a winter garden. A picture exists with Hendrix with this flamboyant young aristocrat sporting sideburns, side-whiskers, and a top hat. In the image is Monika Dannemann. Dannemann is a pretty 23-year-old blond. She is athletic and a championship level skater but had to stop competing because of injury. Monika did follow Hendrix to Cologne for his next concert, but they parted ways.

Monika and Jimi come back together in London 19 months later. At her Notting Hill flat Hendrix is found dead on September 18, 1970. Tragically, Jimi Hendrix becomes part of the 27 Club, a list of musicians who died when they were 27 years old.
